SUMMARY:Labour Force Transitions – Prof. Fabian Lange
DESCRIPTION:Registration Required –  REGISTER HERE ( https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/labour-force-transitions-tickets-876226576277?aff=oddtdtcreator )\n\nDate: April 22, 2024\nTime: 11:00am – 12:00pm\nFormat: In-person\nLocation: Data Sciences Institute, 10th floor Seminar Room, 700 University Avenue, Toronto\n\nTalk Title: Labour Force Transitions\n\nDescription:\nProf. Lange Prof. Lange will review latent-state and type models used in the literature on labor force transitions to summarize the heterogeneity in observed transitions between employment and non-employment states. We compare the results obtained from methods relying either on short panels such as the Current Population Survey and from approaches that rely on long administrative and survey data sets. The chapter connects this literature to existing work on duration dependence, recall non-employment, costs of job loss, and job ladders.\n \nThis talk is part of the Causal Inference Emergent Data Science Program.\n\nBiography:\n\nFabian Lange is a professor of economics at McGill University.  He received his PhD in 2004 from the University of Chicago. His research strives to develop and apply tools to understand the role of information frictions and search in shaping outcomes in the labour market and the organization of firms. Since 3/2020, he has used search models to better understand the performance of the US and the Canadian labor market during the COVID pandemic. He has served as the co-editor of the Canadian Journal of Economics and is an editor of the Journal of Labor Economics. His work has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Labor Economics, American Economic Review, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Political Economy, and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. In 2016, he was awarded the John Rae Prize of the Canadian Economics Association.\n
