Thematic Programs represent areas of research focus for the DSI. The DSI encourages innovative data science methodology development and application in these areas by offering support and funding for research efforts and programming.
Thematic Program ideas are drawn from the DSI community, with an annual call for proposals. Each Thematic Program may be in place for a period of one to three years depending on input from the DSI community.
Annually, the DSI launches calls for Collaborative Research Teams (CRTs) to apply for Research and Training support. This includes
A proportion of funding for these programs is earmarked for CRTs engaged in research in a DSI Thematic Program, while the remaining funding is for CRT-initiated projects outside of these themes. The current Thematic Programs of the DSI are in (1) Inequity and in (2) Reproducibility.
